Ranfurly Bank: one of New Zealand's
fishing icons
- Remotely located, North East of East Cape, New Zealand's most
eastern land mark
- Approximately 10 square miles in area with 2 high pinnacles
structures, approximate centre of shelf rising to apron 30
meters
- These are old traditional fishing ground for the tribal
people of the East Cape (coast).
- Renowned for quality fishing - targeting: Hapuku, bass, King
fish, trumpeter, King tarakihi & game fish
- Average fishing depths 500 - 600 feet (150 - 200m)
Ranfurly is isolated off the East cape and is affected
by two weather systems with strong tidal currents
- It is a privilege to fish there
- Not recommended for the light hearted
- Provides an awesome experience
- Fishing the Ranfurly is determined by sea & weather
conditions, be prepared to postpone bookings.
The Ranfurly Banks are traditional grounds to the Hapu (sub
tribe) of whanau A Hunara and Te Whanau a Takimoana: We
acknowledge this with respect and it is a privilege to have their
support.
Due to an increase and excessive fishing over the Ranfurley, we
encourage Tikanga or enough as a
acceptable catch.
We promote sustainable fishing
policies
"Take Enough". Enjoy the experience and privilege; help preserve
the future of this fishing icon.
